That said, screw leaving Percabeth as Percabeth, ship names need to branch out from just mashing names together! It's bland, it's boring, it's unoriginal. I don't understand why people keep doing it except from it being easy to do. I would love to tell you about seabunny and starrynight!! I am obsessed with both. I’ve been lowkey obsessed with Igor and Charity for a while but Aurora and Severus is a new one for me. A friend of mine came up with the shipnames so major shout out for that lol

Seabunny is 100% something that happens because of Charity. She’s an it girl, she’s an icon, she’s pink, she’s got her daddy’s credit card, she’s got a heart ready to love anyone and she loves men that look like a rat after it’s walked through the underground sewage system (or in Igor’s case a goat lol). You’d think she does it to piss off her parents but that’s not even close. Her mum’s a little sus at first but she’s sus about everything so that’s not really anything to pay attention to. She sees Igor being his awkward self and she’s like “yes that’s the one I want”. Aurora and Wilhelm have to listen to her talk about him on and on as she praises him for doing the bare minimum like “and then he like, responded to me!! He even like, totally looked at me when I was talking this time”.

They’re so silly. For Igor he’s already decided she’s out of his league but the more persistent she is the more he actually starts to think he’s got a chance. And let’s be fr, Igor’s not the best person. He’s a bit more violent than what’s normal (he plays quidditch and oh dear you can catch Evan Rosier scraping the ground for stray teeth and bone bits by the time a game featuring Igor is over) and he’s a huge coward. Their first time alone Charity asked him over to her dorm to look at her cat and he was so confused when she pulled out an actual cat because there’s a slight language barrier at first (the cat also strangely really likes him and of course Charity sees that as a good sign (also the cat’s name is Pudding))

As for them after Hogwarts I’m so interested in seeing how being with Charity (Muggle Studies teacher and while a pureblood herself genuine lover of all things muggle) mixes with Igor (known death eater and technically convicted criminal until he was pardoned). How does knowing Charity affect how Igor basically abandons his death eater ways after the first war? And his reaction to his dark mark calling on him again and his decision to flee and go into hiding and in the end die for that freedom. How much of that is because he was influenced by Charity?? They die a year within each other and I just,, urgh there’s so many things about these two cjfncjnf have a mini moodboard lmao

Now starrynight!! That’s an entirely different vibe. It’s autism², it’s a lot of learning together, it’s a lot of enjoying each other as they genuinely are. Even if they’re not dating I love love love Aurora and Severus as friends. They just work really well together in a way where they actually get to chill for a bit, at least usually.

Bruce (Mulciber Jr) introduces them, not that they didn’t know each other beforehand, they’ve known each other for years, but the idea of them dating each other came about because Aurora really wanted to just “be normal”. Choosing Severus as her boyfriend might not be the best way to do that but she definitely feels more normal when she’s just hanging around with him cause she’s not constantly performing her normal-sona lol.

Aurora is, to me, incredibly reserved yet curious at the same time. She doesn’t want anyone too close yet she wants to experience everything everyone else does. She spends most of her time (if not hijacked by Charity or thinking she’s best friends with Wilhelm) in the Astronomy tower with the large golden telescope that Hogwarts provides and because homegirl loves this telescope so much she brought Severus to see it no doubt and being the mindful and demure girl she is she even checked if he was dying when he was dry heaving and trying to catch his breath while leaning on the walls as he climbed the stairs. Their dates consist of them sharing their interests with each other, whether it be knowledge about stars, telescopes, potions, chemistry etc. their compliments to each other consists of “I really appreciate that you know how to be quiet” and “I admire your knowledge on insert topic no ones ever heard of ever”. They sit together and read and call it a date where at most they share a few glances. They’re such an awkward looking couple, Aurora towers over Severus, but you’ve never seen communication skills like the ones these two have.

Charity is over the moon when Aurora announces that she’s got a boyfriend because they can finally talk about boys and everything that comes along with it. Aurora is over the moon, not necessarily because of the boyfriend thing (though she’s also fairly happy with that) but because she feels normal and god is she excited to feel normal cjnfjfnf

Some thoughts about the origin trio and what they inherited from their parents

Okay so this whole thing started because I thought that it would never not be funny that (from a Watsonian perspective) Mitsuki and Masaru basically used what could have been their shipname to name Bakugou.

Like I kid you not, they basically just took the one kanji in Masaru (勝) and the last kanji of Mitsuki (光己) and what they got was Katsuki (勝 己). Bakugou is like the living embodiment of the whole "apple-pen" thing and I find it hilarious.

That of course made me think about how not only his name but also his quirk was the perfect match/combination of his parents'. Which in turns obviously reminded me of another very obvious important character of BNHA with obvious half and half attributes from his parents. And of course there's no way I'd think about two thirds of the origin trio without inevitably diverging to the last one.

And let me tell you I never expected that what started as crackish thoughts ended up being a semi-analysis about how the origin trio were basically representative of innate, engineered and, acquired genetics /talents.... but there you have it. *sigh*

I'm going to base my comparison on three characteristics that could be inherited/given by the parents : Name, appearance (like hair and eye color) and quirk.

Okay since I've already mentioned Bakugou above, let's start with him.

Bakugou Katsuki

Appearance: there's no debate to have here, in terms of physical appearance, he's 100% Mitsuki to the point where it's almost eerie... But this seems to be how genetic generally works in BNHA, we don't see a lot characters' parents, but for like 99% of them, the kid would tend to take after their mom. (The very obvious exception being of course the Todoroki fam, but I'll come back to it later)

Name: Well as I mentioned it before, Katsuki could be used as a Masaru/Mitsuki shipname so you can't get more 50/50 than that...

Quirk: Once again very obviously 50/50. But I'd say that even more than a 50/50, Bakugou's quirk is like winning the quirk lottery. His quirk is the result of how two basically useless quirks could mixed together in a super homogeneous way to get the best possible combination that could have come out with what was at their disposal. (And the most freaking hilarious thing about this is that Mitsuki and Masaru managed to do what Endeavor was desperately attempted to get - 50/50 quirk- on their first try without even having the intention to do !) Bakugou's quirk and by extension his genetic is the best possible results of his genetic pools, not by design but purely by chance, which makes Bakugou's quirk the very definition of innate talent.

Midoriya Izuku

Appearance : We don't really know anything about Hisashi's look... but if there's anything of him in Midoriya then it would probably be nothing more than the freckles which is pretty insignificant... so nearly 100% Inko.

Name: okay so while both Izuku and Inko starts coincidentally by the same syllable in romanji (I-zu-ku/ I-n-ko), it doesn't really work when you look at the Kanji: Izu(出) and In(引) have zero common point. So unless her maiden name used to be something with 出 in it, it would probably be stretching to count it as coming from Inko. Especially since the "Izu" part of Izuku's name already hold a significant part in the whole "Deku" thing. BUT, just because it doesn't come from Inko doesn't mean that Izuku's name came out of nowhere, because the ku(久) of Izuku can also be read as Hisashi... which is exactly how Midoriya's dad name is written. So Midoriya's name is 0% from his mom and 50% from his dad.

Quirk: Midoriya and Bakugou has been established as complementary mirrors from the very start. The two extremes/opposite of any given scale (ie. villain point vs rescue point). And it is especially true regarding their quirk. If Bakugou's quirk was the best outcome to possibly come out of his lukewarm genetic pool, then Midoriya's was the worst outcome to ever possibly come out from a pretty good genetic pool, which is to say none at all. (Though this is only true if Midoriya was truly born quirkless... but well...) ... So yeah that's a 0% and 0% quirk-wise for Midoriya. What I think is very, very fascinating though is that the contrasted parallel still work, even after Midoriya got his quirk from All Might. Because if you talk about innate talent, then the complementary notion is acquired talent. Which usually means something that you are not born with and that you learn sometimes during the course of your life.... But well in Midoriya's case his quirk was very literally acquired from someone else's DNA. He got 100% of his quirk from All Might. (And not to pull a Todoroki, but that totally makes All Might Midoriya's "quirk parent").

Todoroki Shouto

Appearance: If Bakugou's first name is the name equivalent of the apple-pen thing, then Todoroki's appearance would be trying to physically squish the apple and pen together and get a very awkward half-apple half-pen thing out of it. Todoroki is quite obviously 50% of Rei and 50% of Endeavor. One of the representation of the fact that Todoroki's DNA was purposely made to be this way is the fact that contrarily to the vast majority of BNHA characters, and more specifically Midoriya and Bakugou, Todoroki's appearance doesn't follow the rule of taking mostly from the mom. Another is the little tidbit about Todoroki's blood type. As you might have notice from the character pages, Todoroki's blood type is 0, while Endeavor is AB. Now I don't know how much you know about recessive and dominant alleles.... But if BNHA follows the same genetic law as our own, then it is genetically impossible for Todoroki to be an 0, he should have be either an A or B type. (The Doylist explanation about that is that Horikoshi-sensei probably didn't take that into account when he provided the information and more than certainly based their blood types on their personalities which is a whole thing in Japan, where people of certain blood types have certain personality traits. The Watsonian one is that either Endeavor isn't Todoroki's genetic father which is super unlikely, or that the presence of the Quirk mutation in the genetic pool changed or superseded the dominant/recessive aspect of other alleles.) And while it is probably just a coincidence, it still give this small nod that nothing about Todoroki's birth was left to chance or "natural means".

Name: Todoroki's first name Shouto (焦凍) is a little different from Bakugou and Midoriya in the sense that neither kanji come directly from Rei (冷) or Enji (炎司). But then if you look at the meaning of two kanji in Shouto, you'll get 焦 - burn, impatient, char, singe, scorch 凍 - freeze, cold, refrigerate Todoroki doesn't have his parent's kanji because ultimately Todoroki wasn't meant to be Rei and Enji's son but rather the son of an ice-attribute quirk person and a fire-attribute quirk person. So it makes a lot of sense that his name comes from their attributes and not their own kanji. It adds another layer to that whole "engineered" feeling surrounding the Todoroki's family. Which makes him once again 50% Rei and 50% Enji in the name department.

Quirk: Like his appearance, it is very obvious that he got 50/50 from his parents... like it's in the freaking name of his quirk, so I'm not going to linger on it. But since this subpart is usually where I've been talking about genetics and stuff, I'll keep the same trend here. I've been using the word "engineered" a lot to refer to Todoroki's situation, and of course I don't mean that his genes/existence have been literally engineered and fabricated. No, I'm thinking more along the lines of low-key eugenics, which is where the whole "Quirk marriage" concept stemmed from. So if Bakugou's situation is having a so-so genetic pool and unintentionally getting the best outcome possible, Todoroki's is intentionally having the best possible genetic pool and keep trying until you get the best outcome that you wished for. And what I really find interesting is that Bakugou's homogeneously combined both parts of his parents quirks to create his, while Todoroki's is more like having two independent quirks awkwardly squished together side to side.

To resume Bakugou was born with the best, Todoroki was born to have the best tool and Midoriya was given the best tool. And I love how neat this is that each member of the origin trio got such different circumstances and how balanced the whole thing is. (I mean it is already quite well balanced when you only consider the baku-deku dynamics, but adding the Todoroki layer to the whole thing just makes everything super stable and wholesome, I freaking love it!!)

katsuki bakugō:

it was just after nine in the afternoon. katsuki had already gone to sleep as per usual, though tonight he was rudely interrupted by loud knocking on his room's door.

"the hell do you want, loser?!", he shouted, still unsure of who was even at his door. everyone knew by now not to disturb him, so who dared to do so anyways?

getting out of bed and proceeding to open the door, the ash blond was slightly less angered when he saw eijirou standing there. said red head looked frantic because of something. bakugou honestly didn't even want to know what had got him so distraught, but he knew he wouldn't get his well deserved sleep otherwise,

"spit it out, shitty hair."

"we were looking at pictures from the sports festival online and we found something that you should maybe see for yourself!", eijirou started, realizing that he wasn't getting his friend's attention, so he added, "it's about you and (y/n)!"

kirishima was the only one that knew about bakugou's secret crush on you. that's why he wasn't laughing like everyone else in the common room; because what they found may cause complications.

after kirishima had mentioned your name, bakugou was swiftly jogging towards where almost all of his class was sitting gathered around a laptop, which seemed to be mina's, judging by all the leopardy and pink stickers on it.

"out of the way extras!", katsuki stomped over to see what all the fuss was about. from the corner of his eye he saw how you were cowering next to one of the couches, face covered by your hands. at first he couldn't understand why, but when he saw a particular piece of artwork displayed on the laptop screen, he figured you were just majorly embarrassed.

the art that his class found on google was from somebody's blog that was all about the 'heroes of the future!'. needless to say, the blog didn't only deal with the heroes, but also the relationships of them. ever since an encounter at the sports festival that a lot of people saw and shared around, you and bakugou had become a popular so called ship. (the girls explained that 'ship' didn't mean anything related to boats when they teased you about mentioned moment in front of him.)

katsuki couldn't help but feel embarrassed himself, but he also had to keep his cool to not seem suspicious. looking at the drawing of you and him one more time, the ash blond walked over to you, ignoring anything his class was saying.

"(y/n), you ok?", he crouched down to your level, poking your head once. his only response was a quiet hum, followed by a hiccup. worried, katsuki grabbed your hand tightly and pulled you outside the dorm.

the air was nice, not too hot, nor too cold. a light wind was blowing as the moon shone brightly.

bakugou gave you a little space and some time to calm down. when you did, he was quick to ask,

"what's the matter? did you get THAT embarrassed by it?"

you shook your head no. it was something more, but was this the right time to tell him?

"i was really embarrassed at first.", you started, "but then i thought about something and cried."

"about what?", the usually loud boy asked softly. silence was all he got for a good minute until you finally responded,

"you know how they say 'life imitates art'? i really wish it w-was like that..."

now you were the one getting silence as a response. did you really just say that?

"idiot, being all cryptic and shit.", katsuki tried to stay calm, even if he was freaking out on the inside, "if you want a kiss you can have it."

shōto todoroki:

mr. aizawa's classes had a pretty strict schedule most of the time: first the class would get an assignment, that they'd do until said teacher falls asleep. after that, everyone would quietly - in order to not wake up aizawa - do anything they want, really.

for shouto this was more or less just plainly boring, as he was one of the few students that actually did what they had to. he'd finish his work and then wait, because he had nothing else to do. he was most likely to bother midoriya, but today he was very into whatever he was writing down in his little book. so shouto settled for observing the classmates behaviour. well, rather your behaviour.

the half and half boy knew it was weird, but he liked watching you. he liked seeing you, especially when you were happy and smiling. todoroki knew what these 'symptoms' were, but he wanted everything to stay as it was for now.

why he had caught those feelings, he didn't know. he figured it was the way you stood out. you didn't get lost in between the others and he liked that.

while todoroki was deep in thought, ashido had walked over to your desk, where you were doing the assignment in peace and quiet,

"(y/n), look! the other's and i thought about how todoroki always stares at you so intensely, so we created these shipnames! which one do you like better?"

you looked at the paper or rather the newly created words and little pictures drawn by some of your classmates and immediately turned red. flailing your hands around a little, you lied,

"none of these, i don't...like todoroki in that way."

mina looked a tad upset at that, but she understood, nodded and walked back to her table. you sort of felt bad, having killed her excitement, but you didn't need anyone knowing about your secret crush on the stoic one.

speaking of the stoic one, he couldn't hear anything you and mina had talked about. he only saw her walking over, showing you something and you freaking out and sending her away. needless to say, he was curious what had caught you off guard so much. when shouto saw mina throwing away that suspicious piece of paper, he decided to look at it when class ended. even if he thought sticking his hand in the trash was a little gross.

the end of class came sooner than expected. shouto was packing his bag slower than usual, waiting until everyone had left. after they did, he skipped over to the trash can, pulling out the latest addition: a piece of paper that embarrassed (y/n)!

he stuffed it in his bag and carried on walking to his dorm room, where he finally felt safe looking at it, " 'ship names'? why would they want to name a boat after (y/n) and i?", he asked himself, before a certain doodle on the page explained your reaction and the girls' name-mixing. even shouto couldn't help but react in some way, thinking about said doodle happening in real life. that's when he got startled by a knock on his door.

"hey, todoroki. i know you always do your work in class, so i thought i'd come and ask you about...", you drifted off, seeing the light blush on his cheeks and his fire side burning, "...umm, am i interrupting something?"

he was hiding a piece of paper behind his back. you could see just the corner of it, but that was enough for you to identify what paper it was.

"didn't take you for the nosey type.", you akwardly laughed in order to drown out your embarrassment.

"sorry, i got curious.", he looked unusually upset, averting his heterochromatic eyes and letting his arms drop on his sides. you confirmed the paper was indeed the one that mina showed you earlier.

"did you dislike it a lot?", shouto asked without thinking.

now it was your turn to blush.

Villanelle

You know I've been meaning to watch Killing Eve, seems like something I'd be into. All I know is that there's tension and they probably wanna kill each other? I'm sure it's the kind of ship many would call toxic but hey. I'll get around to watching this show eventually, the chemistry between the actors looks great.

Clexa

Oh, I was there. I remember it all too well. I followed most of The 100 as it came out but almost always followed the fandom with a detached sort of interest. I liked Clexa; I wasn't had over heels, I feel like I would have needed more time for that which they infamously never got. But it was a really cool dynamic and a huge piece of fandom history. I wrote a bit about Clexa but mostly the aftermath of Lexa's death for my dissertation and I know others have done so as well.

Cazzie

Love Cazzie! I've been following Atypical since season 1 and always got queer vibes from Casey so I was so down when Izzie was introduced in s2. I'm a big sucker for their kind of dynamic and thought they were super fun and sweet. The bike scene in season 4? Ughhh super cute. Izzie was a great addition to the show and her s4 scenes in particular were poignant. And again just great chemistry.

Choni

Oh boy, freaking Riverdale. Ironically watching this show used to be fun but now it's too off the rails. Seriously who keeps greenlighting this. Sex sells I guess. Anyway before I go on a Riverdale rant, Choni. I really liked them in season 2, again it’s the kind of dynamic I eat up and stuff like “you’re sensational” was very good. And then you know, the whole show became impossible to take seriously in any way and so I can’t really think of it or Choni as anything substantial. But I liked them and thought they were some of the best parts of even the most bonkers episodes. I can see why people are drawn to them.

Calzona

So here’s the thing, even though I haven’t watched or kept up with Grey’s Anatomy in any way for more than a decade now, they kind of have a special place in my heart. I’m pretty sure Calzona was the first ever wlw ship I saw on TV, in any media. It’s sure as hell the first I remember. And that was kinda special because we used to watch Grey’s as a family and you know, representation matters partly because it normalizes. Callie was one of my favourite characters (along with Lexie) and it was all very new and interesting to me. So even though I don’t keep up with the series in any capacity they remain dear to my heart.

Rules

I haven’t watched Euphoria, yet, and don’t know much about them just like with Villanelle. One half of the ship is Zendaya, right? It looks like a heavy sort of series that I need to be in the right mindset for so I haven’t gotten around to it yet. But I heard good things so go Rules, go Euphoria.

Sanvers

In a way, I started watching Supergirl because of Sanvers. As mentioned above, I loved Lexie in Grey’s so when I saw that Chyler Leigh was playing a lesbian now I Gay Migrated to Supergirl as season 2 was airing. Alex’s season 2 journey was really well done and Sanvers were a great duo. Again as with Clexa I wasn’t in love with them, not because they aren’t great but just cause for me personally it wasn’t OTP material. But it still sucked when Maggie left and I do miss those earlier days of Supergirl. It was handled as well as it could have been though. And how great is it that we got a “coming out in your 30s” story, more of that please.

Sounds like Choni huh. Everything I know about The Wilds is second-hand from tumblr and nowhere else, and though I’ve heard that shipname and the individual names I couldn’t tell you who those two are exactly. Blonde and a brunette? Probably. I should really check The Wilds out eventually but yeah, can’t say much about it now. You tell me anon, what are your thoughts on this and/or other wlw ships?

i just watched the pilot, and. oh my god. some very different things that stuck out to me

serena (well, sofia) trying to convince blair (well, barbi) that she doesn’t have a thing for nate (nico) by fake dating dan (he’s still dan! but rufus  - who is marcello - calls him danny at one point), whom they meet on the beach. she writes her number on his surfboard in lipstick!!! 

yes. dan is a surfer. and his room reminds me of american nate’s aesthetic, it’s very pale blue and full of sailboat models and pictures and motorcycle models and whatnot. 

remember in 1x02 of the english show when dan’s like “it’s not like you own this hotel” or whatevz to chuck? big uno reverse card here because dan’s dad marcello owns a hotel, and he’s put all his money into renovating it. 

for some reason, the actress they chose to play lily reminds me of anne archibald 😭😭

derena (dofia? ok that’s a terrible ship name) first date happened already! it was a very similar thing to the date in 1x05 of the english show, and after sofia pays the bill at the fancy restaurant dan takes her on an authentic dan parra date (yes, that’s his name) which involves rock climbing (in heels, for her! but she has a good time) and then he strips down to his underwear and jumps off a cliff just to prove he can

wasn’t a big fan of this dan, actually, he doesn’t have any of badgley’s awkward, self-conscious charm. what is s1 dan WITHOUT that, i mean, 

like. dan humphrey would never strip down to his underwear and be athletic to get the girl. that’s more of a nate archibald move. 

oh when chuck (max) tries to make a move on sofia, she takes his drink from him and tosses it in his face! 

i liked the actress who played barbi a lot, i think she got the blair-esque vulnerability mixed with don’t-let-them-in-don’t-let-them-see thing that blair’s got going. i loved the bit where she called a priest on the phone to do a confession but pretended that it was dorota (well, dora) who was having ‘sexually impure thoughts’. it felt SO blair, hahaha. 

i also liked  the actress who played sofia, she didn’t really compare to blake but i think she had the whole ‘smile at people sweetly and be forgiven for everything’ thing going for her, which is pretty much everything any serena needs

the serenate shepherd wedding scene (sofnico? okay i hate this shipname transposal thing) was HILARIOUS. it was sofia and nico by the pool and they’re both doing the serena&nate thing, she’s popping the champagne which goes Everywhere, and he’s laughing, and she’s laughing, and. it’s just like gg07 RIGHT UNTIL NICO ACCIDENTALLY PUSHES SOFIA INTO THE POOL. then he jumps in after her and they do the deed in the swimming pool. i’m sorry but like. i laughed SO much at this scene. 

nico buys barbi an expensive necklace and pays some guy to sing a song and serenades b at her birthday party as an apology for sleeping w/ sofia. much more effort than our old nate archie put in there. 

chuck - sorry, max- is kissing jenny on the yacht -subtitles were not very good at this point but i don’t think it was as non-consensual as english gg? jenny wanted him to kiss her, i don’t know if she wanted whatever else was going to happen. but it doesn’t matter because dan shows up and punches him in the stomach.

i was like, oh, that’s it? but NO. dan punches him AGAIN and KNOCKS HIM OFF THE YACHT. MAX/CHUCK FALLS INTO THE WATER.

Look not to be naive and fall for The Bait again but it's just the tiniest bit odd that Supergirl, as a show, hasn't given Kara anything CLOSE to a male love interest since season three, and even in the crossovers, the two she's easily closest to are a married man and a lesbian so it's not like Crisis gave her a possible new male shipmate to play with for the "hey everyone shares an Earth now so...... infinite crossovers?" thing

The fact that there's been very consistant relationship build-up for both Supercorp and Kanvers over the last two years- and that those involved in the show have flat out admitted their focus on the relationships of Kara/Lena and Kara/Kate respectively so it isn't just fans imagining that they're getting on well or the actors having chemistry- and yet Kara has essentially been totally devoid of men in her life since Mon-El... honestly says something

It's very significant for any show, but especially one with a primarily female demographic and with a female lead- to have absolutely NOTHING in terms of a love interest for an entire two seasons and what can essentially constitute as a TV movie, and it certainly isn't because Supergirl doesn't want to focus on relationships, since it currently puts a pretty nice amount of time into Dreamy and Alex/Kelley (I'm so sorry I don't know the shipname) wich, might I note, are currently the only canon relationships in the main cast.... and both involve atleast one canonically queer charector....

Furthermore, both Lena and Kate are available too

This isn't like alot of tease and bait things where one or more potential love interest is already spoken for, Lena recently broke up with James and considering he's taking a step back from the show, I don't think that decision would be reversed in the new continuity, and Kate is not only a single pringle herself, but also is canonically gay, wich is WAY more than most of these situations get

Now wile I definitely wouldn't expect Kanvers to ever be canon because, to be entirely fair, there's just no way Batwoman and Supergirl can maintain two shows at once and cross over into eachother's show often enough for a relationship to be a thing, so one would (at the least) have to get cancelled first and I'm sure we don't want that to happen (although in the future when one of them does eventually go the way of Arrow that would actually be a pretty nice way to keep the charectors alive without having to give them the full show, and thus without having to kill off either Kara or Kate; Supergirl just isn't the "dark, gritty" type of show that could get away with that kind of stunt and wile Batwoman's genre could stand it I don't think the fact that Kate being the first openly gay superhero to have her own TV show and then getting killed off at the end would go over well with many people, so there's that) I DO think it could make for a very interesting self-discovery story, we've gotten all but a full confirmation that these crossovers will be happening more often now, it's unlikely that Kate's sexuality will just never come up between them if they are, indeed, supposed to be the new Oliver and Barry- who were quite close- and especially if Kate is, within ONE day of the Earths being merged, already watching TV with Kara and Alex; Kate could be an incredible way for Kara to come out, be it by starting to notice that some of Kate's experiences with her sexuality mirror her own, or by Kate having a "woah wait a minute you're straight? ..................really?" moment, or even just Kara figuring things out on her own and going to Kate for advice that she feels weird asking Alex for (because there are just some things you don't talk about with your sister)

And then there's Lena

Lena has been THE plot of Supergirl since LAST SEASON, and to go through this entire plot of love/hate/love with her for any reason other than Love Interest Complications seems... odd.... it's clear that at this point they're not setting Lena up to be the villain for the rest of the season or else the thing with Lex wouldn't have happened because villain!Lena is more than strong enough to lead a plot of her own, they obviously want the primary point of Kara and Lena's relationship right now to be one of internal conflict, of Kara knowing that this is wrong- with Lex and what he's doing -but wanting to keep Lena's love so much that she has to fight with herself to do what's right

Kara is an extremely moral person, that's....... alot of desire to be loved by one person

For the conflict to be that internal and that extreme.....

Don't get me wrong, I'm still totally prepared for this all to be subtext and for Supergirl to end with Kara and Lena both in relationships with dudes or neither in a relationship at all or some mix of the two, but... the circumstances are pretty interesting... and to give credit where credit's due, two out of six of the Arrowverse shows ARE lead by queer women, and Supergirl as a show it's self has THREE canonical queer women in it's main cast.. and in the past two years alone, the CW has been responsible for both introducing TV's very first openly trans superhero AND making the first superhero TV show to center around an open lesbian, and at this point the majority of the Arrowverse does have atleast one canonically queer charector as part of their main cast and those charectors seem to be growing in screentime lately...

Do I think we REALLY will get Supergirl into a same sex relationship? ...No, if nothing else because she's still part of the Super franchise wich DC and Warner Brothers probably have a death grip around to keep anyone with "Super" in their name as clean-cut American Pie as possible (wich is ironic considering things like Red Son) but do I think there's atleast some small chance of it? ...I mean.... maybe...? If you'd asked me two years ago I would have flat-out said "no" but the truth is that Batwoman has really changed the game for what can be acceptable on the CW, and from DC, so there's possibly a small chance of it....

i imagine jiang cheng’s powers as a bit more localized than storm’s, at least at first. like he’ll get a cloud bursting right above him or lightning sparking out from his body, depending on how he’s feeling. he’s usually grumpy so the (purple) lightning is a near-constant, probably to the point that most people think his power is *just* lightning until he’s sad one day and there’s rain, or he actually smiles and the sun beams are Too Powerful. 

wen qing’s power is one i admittedly think about a lot and insert into like, every superpowers story i think up, because i think having a character who is constantly healing turn around and be like “oh yeah i can manipulate your bones and muscles in bad ways, too” is just, too powerful in the best way. like someone tries to come for wen ning and wen qing just *looks* at them and suddenly their legs have snapped and their bones are broken. 

i haven’t quite figured out whether the powers themselves are hereditary, or whether the possibility for powers is an inherited gene than expresses itself differently in each individual. i like the idea that jiang fengmian also had some kind of nature-based power that jiang yanli inherited? and i’d want madame yu’s to have something to do with her purple spider moniker… maybe something with lighting that people described as “stings”, and then that combined with jfm’s nature abilities gets you jc’s control over weather… 

there’s a couple comics superheroes who deal with light! (dagger, dr light, monica rambeau…) and i kind of imagine lxc having access to their entire inventory of powers. so definitely blinding people flash-grenade style, making light constructions, creating mirages even… 

and yes the ship name song would definitely be like, his ultimate power. lan wangji has it so bad and everyone is like “is wei wuxian manipulating his soul???” and lan xichen is just like, “no guys he’s just super gay and it be like that sometimes”

i haven’t really thought about whether secret identities would be a thing in this universe– probably yes??– so i can imagine that causing layers of amusement within the council. and also all the kids being very unsubtle about their names when they get sent off for training so it’s all a moot point eventually. (although that would be a way to introduce courtesy names… i’m thinking of titles = superhero monikers, so!)
